Global agribusiness leader Bunge has announced a major step forward in sustainable supply chains, partnering with Bangkok Produce Merchandising (BKP) — a subsidiary of Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) — to roll out blockchain-based soy traceability solutions from Brazil.
The announcement, made on September 15, follows the successful testing of a blockchain platform designed to trace soy and soy meal sourced by Bunge in Brazil and delivered to BKP and CP Group for use in food and animal feed production in Thailand and across Southeast Asia.
The blockchain solution was developed by Bunge in collaboration with Justoken, a blockchain infrastructure firm backed by Bunge Ventures. By digitizing and securing each transaction in the soy supply chain, the platform creates a transparent, verifiable record from farm to final customer.
“With the blockchain platform, we are creating a direct and verifiable connection between our food production and end customers, providing comprehensive information on our responsible supply chains and ensuring that every link in the chain contributes to a more transparent and trustworthy future,” said Julio Garros, Bunge’s Co-Chief Operating Officer.
Garros added that the pilot’s success had paved the way for further commercial commitments with CP Group, including new business opportunities in regenerative agriculture — a farming model that enhances soil health and biodiversity while reducing environmental impact.
In addition to expanding blockchain-enabled traceability, Bunge and CP plan to develop integrated systems to improve visibility and transparency across agricultural commodity supply chains. The partnership also includes joint initiatives focused on reducing carbon emissions, supporting CP Group’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Since 2023, Bunge and CP have been conducting technical, operational, and commercial feasibility studies on sustainable, digitally integrated supply chains. Last year, the companies successfully validated traceability through a pilot project that tracked approximately 375,000 tonnes of soy meal shipped from Brazil. Building on that success, the partners will now implement the solution at scale.
Looking ahead, the collaboration will extend beyond digital traceability. Beginning in 2025, Bunge and CP Group will pursue comprehensive trade agreements covering both upstream and downstream operations. These include procurement of key agricultural raw materials, joint development of more efficient sourcing processes, and improvements in logistics and transportation to streamline supply to CP Group’s animal feed plants.
Industry observers note that the partnership positions Bunge and CP Group at the forefront of digital transformation in agriculture, aligning food production with global sustainability goals while meeting rising consumer demand for traceable, responsibly sourced ingredients.
By combining blockchain technology, regenerative agriculture, and carbon reduction strategies, the two companies are shaping a blueprint for more transparent and sustainable food systems across Southeast Asia and beyond.
