Harvest across eastern Kansas this fall has produced a wide range of results for soybean and corn growers, according to local farmer Danieal Anderes.
Anderes noted that most of his soybean fields performed well, but results varied depending on soil type, seed variety, and other factors. “If you find the right hit, you got a really nice field. If you found something a little different, then it was off a little bit,” he said.
Corn yields have been particularly strong, with about 200 acres still to be harvested. “Yields have been great. We had really good yielding corn and we’re in some really good yielding corn now,” Anderes said.
Sorghum also saw above-average results this season, benefiting from timely rains and favorable growing conditions. The variability in soybean yields contrasts with the more consistent performance of corn and sorghum, highlighting the influence of local soil and weather patterns on crop outcomes in the region.
