Northeast Missouri farmer Drew Lock reports that fall harvest and fieldwork are nearly complete, as cold weather approaches. Lock, who raises cattle, corn, and soybeans in southern Adair and northern Macon Counties, said that while some fertilizer applications are finished, the arrival of colder temperatures or snow could bring fieldwork to an early end.
Lock described corn yields as “well above our average,” reflecting a strong harvest, while soybean yields were lower than expected but still acceptable. Some soybeans were sold at harvest, with additional sales contracted for the next year, and Lock is holding off on selling corn until later.
According to the USDA’s final harvest update of the season, Missouri’s soybean harvest is now complete, and 96% of the corn crop has been collected. Lock also noted that he could plant more cover crops but feels “comfortable with where we’re at” for now, signaling a largely successful close to the 2025 field season.
Farmers across the region are wrapping up operations while keeping a close eye on winter weather, which will influence remaining field activity and preparations for the next growing season.
