Taiwan’s fast-growing food sector is creating new opportunities for U.S. soybean exporters, according to Joe Smentek, Executive Director of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association.
Smentek recently joined a USDA trade mission to Taiwan, where he observed firsthand the country’s rapid development and vibrant dining culture. He noted that Taiwan’s dynamic economy and strong tendency toward eating out are fueling demand for a wide range of soy-based foods and meat alternatives.
He emphasized that this growing appetite is driving the need for more soy products, including identity-preserved soybeans, soymeal, and soybean oil.
With U.S. soybean exports to Taiwan already valued at over $600 million, the island remains America’s seventh-largest market and one with significant room for further growth.
