The soybean harvest across much of the Upper Midwest is nearly finished, while corn harvest activity continues to lag behind.
According to Susan Hart, an agronomist with Stine Seed who oversees central and western Minnesota, all of North Dakota, and northern South Dakota, most soybean fields have already been harvested, with only a few remaining. Recent rainfall temporarily slowed progress, but overall, the region’s soybean harvest is effectively complete.
Hart noted that ample rainfall supported strong soybean development this season, particularly in lighter soils. However, heavier and irrigated fields experienced more disease pressure, with white mold emerging as a significant challenge.
Yields have varied widely depending on soil type and local conditions, she said. In contrast, corn harvest operations are just getting started, with only about 10 to 20 percent of fields harvested so far across the region.
