The U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) has launched its Pacific Northwest (PNW) Exploratory Mission, highlighting the region’s pivotal role as a gateway for U.S. soy exports to Asia. The initiative brings together U.S. soy producers, exporters, and international buyers to demonstrate the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of the supply chain connecting American soy to high-demand Asian markets.
Carlos Salinas, USSEC Executive Director for East Asia, emphasized that the mission is a proactive response to evolving global trade patterns, providing diversified supply options while building confidence and continuity for international customers even amid market uncertainty. The four-day program includes market insight sessions, tours of regional ports and grain handling facilities, and one-on-one meetings between importers and U.S. exporters.
The PNW region already handles a substantial portion of U.S. soy exports, with 21% of U.S. soybeans and soybean meal in 2024 passing through the 10 ports in Washington and Oregon. By showcasing world-class logistics and direct partnerships, the mission aims to expand market access for U.S. soy while emphasizing its sustainable production practices.
Craig Pietig, USSEC Board Director and VP of Ag Products at AG Processing Inc., noted that Asia’s growing demand for high-quality, sustainable protein presents a major opportunity for U.S. soy. The mission is designed to strengthen connections that not only drive immediate sales but also secure long-term relationships, positioning the Pacific Northwest as a critical hub in global soybean trade.
